Hammer Throw Throwing Weight Rules

Under World Athletics rules, senior men compete with a 7.26kg hammer and senior women with a 4kg hammer. Younger athletes use lighter implements including 6kg (U20 men), 5kg (U18 boys) and 3kg (U18 girls).

The hammer consists of a metal ball attached to a steel wire and handle, with maximum length specifications also governed by competition rules. All hammer throwing must take place within a certified cage to meet safety standards.
